By all accounts, our 2019 summer tour was a great success. Among the highlights were several herbicide trials for Brush and Kochia, with a viewing of Spotted Knapweed, Oxeye Daisy, and Orange Hawkweed sites. A stop at Andreous Robotic Dairy Farms followed by another at Kelburn Research Farm (Richardson Pioneer) provided a fascinating look at the some of the advancements in modern agricultural practices. Great food and accommodations were to be found at the Roadhouse 52 Inn & Suites in Steinbach, while All Road Tours & Charters provided comfortable and reliable transportation in between. At the end of the day, a visit to Splatters Paintball was a great way to blow off some steam. I think Jason from Univar took the most hits, but he took em like a champ!
A big thanks to Lionel Saindon (Red River Weed District) and Gary Hora (Piney & Stuartburn Weed District) who put a lot of personal time and effort into putting it all together. As well, Jeff Saindon, Denis Mc Farlane, Art Hupe and Matt Mireaut did a great job setting up the trials and tending the details (that includes Bar-tending ;)
Thanks to Will Roberts (Bayer), Jason Theroux (Univar) , Gavin Lunn (Corteva), and Geoff Thompson (Advantage VM) for their support with the trials. A special mention to Tammy Jones, Industry Development Weeds Specialist (MB gov.), who provided some valuable insight and plant identifications for the ongoing noxious weeds battle.
